Vaginal Discharge Ask Iris Q&A
|

 |
Dear Iris,
I recently had pneumonia and I was taking antibiotics. Shortly afterwards, right about the time I got my next period, I developed a yeast infection. My sister-in-law said the yeast infection was from the tampons that I used during my period, but I think the yeast infection was from the medicine. Who was right?
Thanks, Sonia
Dear Sonia,
Yeast infections are caused by a form of yeast commonly found in the vagina known as Candida. The use of antibiotics, among other things, can be a factor in the development of a yeast infection. It is common that when yeast infections occur, they do so shortly before your period begins. Because of that, women may mistakenly believe that their tampon is the cause of the yeast infection but they are not! Hope this helped you.
Good luck —
Iris
